Vetiver Root Powder

There are so many things this plant can do, we can’t say enough about all of its properties. Multi-purpose due to its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, and antioxidant properties.

In traditional folklore, vetiver (also known as khus) is an aromatic tall grass native to India. The roots of the vetiver plant are more important than the grass. The ideal way to use vetiver roots is to place them in an earthen pot with clean drinking water. Cover the roots with water and let them steep for a few hours. Drink up after straining.

Besides cooling the body and reducing body heat, vetiver root water is also a great antioxidant and alkaliser. Additionally, it calms your mind and balances out negative emotions as well as reducing inflammation and soothing the body.

How to use Vetivar roots

Vetiver Water
Before drinking, steep some vetiver (lavancha roots) for at least 2 to 4 hours in a pitcher, a glass bottle or a clay pot.
In what amount of water should vetiver roots be infused? Around 6-8 strands should be infused in 1L of water.
Lemonades or coolers can also be made with this. The vetiver can also be slowly released into drinks by freezing this water as ice cubes. Your drink will smell amazing as the ice cubes release soothing vetiver aroma!

Vetiver roots for aromatherapy
Vetiver’s woody and slightly sweet scent promotes feelings of well-being and peace. It is possible to place a handful of these roots in your rooms, on the sides of windows, in wardrobes, in bathrooms or on your desks. An alluring, comforting, earthy aroma of vetiver’s scent will fill your home or office with a freshness you would expect from a well-ventilated forest.

Vetiver as a pest repellent
Vetiver is an excellent insecticide. By burning vetiver roots in corners of the house, termites and mosquitoes can be kept out. In addition to protecting your plants from insects, they can also be used in storage closets as moth/bug repellents.
Besides acting as insect repellents, burning vetiver roots like incense releases a positivity-filled aroma, a natural aromatherapy practice.

Vetiver tea

To make this you will need:
Boil 4 cups of water
Chop and wash eight to ten strands of Vetiver roots
The addition of lemon, ginger, a pinch of black pepper, tulsi, and sweetener of your choice is optional.
To bring in a sense of tranquility, boil all of this in a vessel until the water reduces by half, then enjoy its benefits.

Vetiver Bath powder
The antibacterial properties of vetiver make it an excellent ingredient for bath powders. Moreover, the bath powder smells great thanks to vetiver roots. The bath powder is made by sun drying green gram dal and a small bunch of vetiver roots under hot sunlight until they become very crisp. Mix finely in a mixer, sieve, and store.

This powder contains a lot of vetiver, so use just a little. Green gram powder and vetiver are both cooling to the body. Due to its lack of harsh chemicals, this powder is excellent for small babies. You can use the leftover powder later if you store it in an airtight box away from moisture.
